Employers hire temporary accountants for short-term projects and temporary-to-hire positions that involve a wide range of accounting duties and responsibilities.

In June 2011, Accountemps, which bills itself as "the world's premier provider" of temporary accountants, hires entry-level accountants in the range of $9 to $14 per hour. Experienced or specialty accountants are offered $25 to $50 per hour. Annual salaries for 13 open positions with annual salaries show incomes of $35,000 to $70,000 per year. When hiring temporary accountants, however, employers pay a temporary service such as Accountemps more than the accountants earn.

Indeed.com, a large employment search site, averaged the stated salaries of temporary accountant job postings nationwide. The average annual salary for temporary accountants nationwide is $42,000 per year. Nonexempt temporary accountants averaged $68,000 per year.

Simply Hired Inc.

Simply Hired Inc., which runs another large employment search site, averaged the stated salaries of temporary accountant positions and found that the average annual salary nationwide is $44,000 per year. The average annual salary for the title of temporary accountant/bookkeeper in June 2011 was $36,000 per year.

Glassdoor.com offers an inside look at corporate salaries. Salaries on GlassDoor.com are posted anonymously by both employees and employers. In June 2011, a temporary accountant position pays $17 to $19 per hour. Combining annual salary with bonuses, temporary accountant pay ranges from $35,000 to $38,000 per year.
