Scholarships for Mothers of Twins

by Maureen Katemopoulos ; Updated July 27, 2017

Raising twins or multiples presents many challenges and expenses, not the least when it comes to higher education. In the United States, mothers of multiples are fortunate to have help within easy reach. Clubs and organizations in many communities are exclusively for moms of multiples. They offer opportunities to make friends, seek advice, compare notes and even win scholarships for moms to pursue further studies.

The Southern California Mothers of Twins Clubs Inc. (SCMOTC) Scholarship

The Southern California Mothers of Twins Clubs Inc. (SCMOTC) alerts service area high schools and colleges about the availability of the annual SCMOTC Scholarship. Scholarship values ranged from $250 to $1,500 for the academic year 2010-2011.

Applicants can be a group of multiples or individual multiples or mothers of multiples living in Southern California or Clark County, Nevada, and without any affiliation to SCMOTC member clubs. Mothers attending college or with plans to enroll in a college, trade or vocational school are eligible to apply.

In awarding this scholarship, the SCMOTC takes into account financial need, academic achievement, educational background, extra curricular activities, letters of recommendation and the applicant’s essay.

The Illinois Organization of Mothers of Twins Club Inc. (IOMOTC) Scholarships

Mothers of multiples were eligible to receive two $300 scholarships based on need and three $100 scholarships awarded at random from the Illinois Organization of Mothers of Twins Club (IOMOTC) during the 2010 academic year.

Proof of financial need is a requirement for the $300 scholarship applicant. Proof of higher studies enrollment, completion of previous course work and final grade are also prerequisites, as is active participation in the IOMOTC, local mother of twins clubs or other community participation.

Founded in 1962, the IOMOTC provides support, information and networking opportunities to parents of twins and other multiples.

The Northwest Association of Mothers of Twins Clubs Inc. (NWAMOTC) Scholarships

Mothers of twins who join the Northwest Association of Mothers of Twins Clubs (NWAMOTC) qualify for scholarships for higher education offered by the Association. Among them is the Gwen Lawson Making Opportunities for More Schooling (MOMS) Scholarship. Established in 2000, the MOMS Scholarship is available to mothers of multiples wishing to pursue further studies.

Mothers of twins clubs enable members to exchange views about their multiple-birth experiences and to offer one another support. New parents in particular have access to panels and discussion groups and to make friends. Social events, and sales or exchanges of clothing, equipment and toys are among the other membership perks.

The North Carolina Mothers of Multiples (NCMOM) Scholarship

Any member the North Carolina Mothers of Multiples organization is eligible to apply for the NCMOM Scholarship for her own use in higher education or for her children. Awarding of this scholarship began in 2001, following the formation of a scholarship committee in 1999.

Applications include a letter of personal reference, education transcripts and an essay to describe how receiving this scholarship could or would change the applicant’s life.
