Doctoral Scholarships for Women

A variety of scholarships are available to women pursuing a degree at the doctoral level. Several different types of organizations offer doctoral scholarships to women, including professional organizations and student associations. Some Ph.D. scholarships for women may be limited to students pursuing a Ph.D. in a specific area of study or students who are citizens of a particular country.

Society of Women Engineers Doctoral Scholarships

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) offers a variety of scholarships to women pursuing a Ph.D. in engineering. The Booz Allen Hamilton Scholarship is made available in the amount of $2,000 to doctoral candidates in computer engineering or computer science who have a grade point average of at least 3.8. The Henry Luce Graduate Fellowship Scholarship is available in the amount of $10,000 to a female Ph.D. candidate in engineering who has a grade point average of at least 3.0 and is pursuing a career in academia. The Ada I. Pressman Memorial Scholarship is available in the amount of $5,000 to female Ph.D. candidates in engineering who are United States citizens and who have a grade point average of at least 3.0. Association for Women In Science Doctoral Scholarships

The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) Educational Awards Committee offers several scholarships for female doctoral candidates pursuing degrees in science-related fields. The Luise Meyer-Schutzmeister Award is available annually to female doctoral candidates in physics. The Ruth Satter Award is available to doctoral candidates in the sciences who interrupted their studies for at least three years so that they could raise a family. The AWIS Predoctoral Award and the Barbara Filner Award are also available to Ph.D. candidates in the fields of social science, life science, physical science, or engineering. Canadian Federation of University Women Doctoral Scholarships

The Canadian Federation of University Women offers several scholarships to female doctoral candidates who are Canadian citizens. The CFUW Dr. Margaret McWilliams Pre-Doctoral Fellowship is available in the amount of $11,000 to a full-time doctoral candidate in any subject who has completed at least one year of her program. The CFUW Dr. Alice E. Wilson Award is available in the amount of $5,000 to a Ph.D. candidate in any field, with preference given to a student who has interrupted her studies for three or more years.
