By recycling aluminum cans, you can help clean up the environment. Aluminum cans are thrown away every day in trash, on lawns, on sidewalks and on roadways. While recycling the cans, you can also make money.

Obtain telephone numbers for your local recycling companies. Call each local recycling company and determine who pays the highest price per pound for the aluminum cans. Depending on your state, the price per pound for aluminum cans can range from $0.40 to $1.40. The price for aluminum cans fluctuate often, so you should always call your local recycling center to confirm prices.

Collect the aluminum cans. Usually it takes between 30 to 40 cans to generate one pound. You can collect aluminum cans from your family members, from local businesses, from trash cans and from public spaces in your neighborhood.

After you collect a quantity of cans, take them to the highest-paying recycling center and collect your cash. Continue collecting and recycling cans.

Invest the money you earn from recycling cans, using financial instruments such as a savings account, a certificate of deposit or a money market account.
