There are many opportunities for single mothers in Oklahoma to get grants. Corporations, schools, private and public institutions, non-profit organizations and charities offer grants to help single mothers pay for school. Thanks to the generosity of these entities, finding a way to pay for school is now simpler than ever. There are scholarships for particular areas of interest and/or study, merit-based awards for the academically inclined, and need-based grants for those who need help financially.

Mommy Goes to College Scholarship

The Mommy Goes to College Scholarship is offered to a mother returning to college by the college website myUsearch. To qualify, you must thoughtfully answer essay questions on the challenges you've faced as a mother returning to school and any educational and/or career goals you may have. Applicants must also have at least one dependent minor child and have a combined yearly household income of less than $100,000. The award amount is a one time payment of $1,000.

Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship

The Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship is offered to an outstanding mother and student by the Jeannette Rankin Foundation. Applicants must have at least one dependent minor child, must be 35 years old or older and you must demonstrate financial need. Additionally, students must write an essay on any hardships they have overcome and their future life goals. The award amount is generally between $1,000 and $2,500.

Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation Scholarship

The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation Scholarship is offered to a deserving mother and student by the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation. The award is named after Patsy Takemoto Mink, a Hawaiian senator and education and women's rights advocate. Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship, have at least one dependent minor child, be at least aged 17 and be enrolled full-time in a vocational, bachelor's or master's degree program. The award amount is $2,000 per academic year.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is offered to a deserving Oklahoma student by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Oklahoma, be graduating from high school, be planning on attending an accredited Oklahoma college or university full-time and must meet the strict academic criteria. The award amount is $1,500 per academic year.
