Mothers looking to rejoin the workforce or start new careers have many options for earning a degree or receiving professional training. There also are numerous grant programs, some administered through government agencies, that can help mothers finance their education.
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) program gives grants to mothers and other students who plan to study toward a teaching certification. Grant recipients must make a four-year commitment to teach in a recognized school that serves low-income families.

Moms Return to School
President Barack Obama's "Moms Return to School" program gives a federal Pell grant to mothers who wish to pursue a college or university education. The grant qualifications take into account the needs of mothers who must often care for their children while studying. Therefore, mothers can receive the grant even if they only study part time. Grant recipients must study in a program that leads to an associate's or bachelor’s degree or certificate. Those interested should fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Health Corps Scholarship
This scholarship allows mothers to study for a degree in a high-demand medical profession, such as nursing, dentistry or physician assistant. Recipients are required to work in a priority area for the Department of Health and Human Services for four years.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
Mothers whose financial situation places them in a low-income bracket may apply for this grant. The FSEOG provides aid to undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need.
