How to Estimate My Food Stamp Benefits in Kentucky

by Maya Walker ; Updated July 27, 2017
Food stamps are issued on a monthly basis to qualified families.

Low-income to extremely-low income families in Kentucky may qualify for food stamps benefits. The benefits increase a family's ability to purchase food at supermarkets and grocery stores. If you are unsure if you qualify for assistance or you want to estimate how much you would receive, you can do so before applying for food stamps. The U.S. Department of Agriculture provides an online tool that can provide you with an estimation of benefits.

Step 1

Visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture's SNAP web page and access the the SNAP Eligibility Screening Tool (see Resources). Click “Start Tool.”

Step 2

Select “Kentucky” from the drop-down menu. Identify yourself and how you heard about the online tool from the remaining drop-down menus. Click “Continue.”

Step 3

Enter the requested information about your household. You will need to provide the number of people in your household, citizenship status and income. You do not need to provide your real name to use the tool. You can instead enter an alias.

Step 4

Review the eligibility screening results. The amount you may be eligible to receive when applying in Kentucky is listed in the first row of the results. Since the amount displayed is an estimate, it is possible you may receive more or less than the amount indicated.

Tips

  • If you are eligible for food stamps, an application can be submitted in person at your local Family Support office.
