Shell gas stations offer MasterCard credit cards through Citibank. You can use your Shell card at any Shell service station worldwide as well as at any business that accepts MasterCard. Shell also offers the Shell Saver card, a no-fee card which links directly to your checking account like a debit card. If you have either of these cards and decide you no longer want one or both, you can contact the card issuer to close your account with one phone call. If you cancel your MasterCard, you are still liable for any remaining balance.
Contact Shell Customer Support
In order to cancel your Shell MasterCard, first, locate the card attached to the account you'd like to cancel. When you call Citibank to cancel your card, you will need to provide your card or Shell account information to the customer service representative. Call Citibank at 800-331-3703 to speak to a customer service representative to cancel your Shell MasterCard anytime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday to Friday Eastern Time. Use your keypad to enter the numbers from the automated menu that directs you to a live customer service representative.
Tell the Shell customer support representative your name, address, phone number and your 16-digit credit card number. Confirm your identity by telling the representative the last four digits of your Social Security number. Inform the representative you want to close your Shell MasterCard account.
Other Things To Consider
Citibank wants to keep your business and will try to entice you to keep your account open, so decline any potential offers for lower interest rates or an increased credit limit. Confirm your desire to close the account and write down the confirmation number given to you. Cut up your card into as many pieces as you possibly can and throw them away in multiple garbage cans to prevent identity theft. You must close the MasterCard account to prevent the accumulation of any more charges and ongoing fees, although you will be charged some fees until your last Shell credit card payment is received and the balance is paid off.
Cancelling a Shell Saver Card
When you call Shell to cancel your Shell Saver Card, you will need to provide your card information to the customer service representative. Call Shell at 1-877-278-0083 and select the menu option to speak with a live customer service representative. Tell the customer service representative your name, address, phone number and your 16-digit credit card number. Confirm your identity by telling the representative the last four digits of your Social Security number. Inform the representative you want to close your Shell Saver account.
Confirm your desire to close the account and write down the confirmation number given to you. Cut up your card into as many pieces as you possibly can and throw them away in multiple garbage cans to prevent identity theft. Discontinuing the use of the Shell Saver card will effectively shut it down because there are no fees associated with it, but it's prudent to cancel the account and destroy the card to prevent identity theft.
