Educational Grants for Nonprofit Employees

There are many educational grants and scholarships available to employees of nonprofit organizations. While some scholarships are open to nonprofit employees pursuing a degree in any given field, others are open only to employees seeking training in certain fields. Scholarships for nonprofit employees may also be limited to employees of a particular geographical area or to employees who have worked for a nonprofit organization for a certain length of time.

Leader to Leader Institute AMA Scholarship

The Leader to Leader Institute and the American Management Association have partnered to offer scholarship assistance to employees of nonprofit organizations who fulfill leadership roles within their organizations. This scholarship allows a recipient to attend one AMA professional-development seminar free of charge. It also awards a free, one-year membership with both the AMA and the Leader to Leader Institute.

In order to be eligible, a candidate must be an employee of an organization that is designated as nonprofit or charity by the Internal Revenue Service, must have at least three years of experience in the social sector, and must be nominated by a direct supervisor. PMI Educational Foundation Scholarships for Nonprofits

The Project Management Institute Educational Fund provides several scholarships to employees of nonprofit organizations. One is the PM Fundamentals Online Certification Program Scholarship, which enables a student to obtain certification in project management free of charge. This scholarship is valued at $3,250. Ten scholarships are awarded each year. An applicant must be an employee of a nonprofit organization to be eligible.

The Jerry King Memorial Scholarship for Project Management Excellence, which provides $1,000 toward the cost of a PMI certification or re-certification in project management, is also open to employees of nonprofit organizations. The Helen M. McLoraine Nonprofit Employee Scholarship Fund

The Denver Foundation offers scholarship money to employees of nonprofit organizations in the Denver metro area via the The Helen M. McLoraine Nonprofit Employee Scholarship Fund. These scholarships are typically awarded in amounts ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 -- although they may be awarded in higher or lower amounts, depending upon circumstances. These scholarships may be used to defray the costs of tuition and associated fees.

Eligibility requirements consist of the following; An applicant must have worked as a paid employee of a Denver-area nonprofit at a minimum of half-time status for at least one year and must be intending to pursue a career at a nonprofit in Colorado. Applicants who have college credit must have a minimum grade-point average of 2.5. The annual deadline for applications is May 1.
