Can You Rent a Car With Another Person's Credit Card?

by Neil Kokemuller
Car rental payment terms are often indicated on their websites.

Car rental company payment policies vary, so whether you can use another person's credit card to rent your vehicle depends on who is on the other side of the counter. For example, on its FAQ page, the Budget website indicates that you must use your own credit card that matches your driver's license to rent a car. By contrast, the Hotwire website indicates that someone can rent a car on behalf of another driver with his credit card. The driver would need to show identification when picking up the vehicle.

Additional Information

Even if a car rental company does allow someone other than the driver to make payment, you would likely not have the option to use another person's card yourself to make payment. The most convenient way for you to have someone pay on your behalf is typically to call the rental company on the phone or book the car online and make payment that way.
