How to Make Yard Sale Flyers

How to Make Yard Sale Flyers. If you want to have a successful yard sale, you have to advertise it in as many ways as possible. The first step to success is getting as many people as you can to come. In addition to an ad in the newspaper and signs up on the street corner, you might want to make up some flyers to pass out around town.

Step 1

Design your yard sale flyer by hand or on the computer. There are several websites on the Internet that offer free flyer templates.

Step 2

Include the date and time of your yard sale, the complete address of your home, and directions on how to get there.

Step 3

Entice people to come to your yard sale by listing some of the items you are offering. List general categories or items, and specifically name the items that you think have mass appeal or are of high value.

Step 4

Print as many copies of the flyer as you think you can distribute before your sale. Or print one copy, and bring it to an office supply store to have copies made.

Step 5

Think creatively of ways to give out your yard sale flyers. Hang them on bulletin boards in local businesses, give them to parents when picking up your child at school or day care, bring some to work, give some to others and ask them to give them to people they know.

  • Time the delivery of your flyers well. You want to plan your yard sale well in advance so you have time to get the flyers made. Start giving the flyers out about a week before your sale. You want enough time to get them distributed, but not too far in advance that people loose the flyer and forget. Give the customer a reason to not loose their flyer. Print on the flyer that they get a free gift if they bring the flyer to the sale, or offer them 10 percent off their total purchase by redeeming the coupon on the flyer.

  • Some towns require you purchase a permit to hold a yard sale. Find out the laws in your town before scheduling your sale. Always ask permission of the owner, before hanging flyers in a business. Yard sale flyers are typically made on 8 1/2 X 11" paper. This is a good size for a flyer, but it is too small for a sign. Do not use your flyers as roadside signs for your sale. Signs must be printed much larger so they can be safely read by people driving by.
