Grants or Scholarships for College With a GPA of 2.8 or Higher

Students with a grade point average of 2.8 might not be on the top of the academic heap, but they are still good, solid students. Although not as plentiful as for those with higher GPAs, there are grants and scholarships available at colleges for students with a 2.8 or higher GPA.

University of Illinois College of Business Administration

Students attending the University of Illinois College of Business Administration may apply for the Caterpillar “Homeland Security” Scholarship for Information and Decision Sciences. Either graduate or undergraduate students pursuing studies regarding security issues may apply for the award, which is $2,000 for the 2011 to 2012 academic year. The Caterpillar Scholarship offer seven awards of $2,500 for minority females in their second through fourth years of undergraduate study. The college offers other scholarships for students with a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Seminole State College

Seminole State College offers its own scholarships along with others limited to Florida residents or even narrower geographic locations. The Dr. Earl S. Weldon Memorial Scholarship is for state residents involved in extracurricular activities. For the 2010 to 2011 academic year, the scholarships pays $750 for tuition, fees and books. The Gibson Truck World Scholarship awards $500 to students seeking an associate's degree. The Kimball Foundation Endowed Scholarship awards $500 to African-American students, while residents of Seminole County involved in community affairs may apply for the $500 Kiwanis Club of Sanford/Earl Weldon Memorial Scholarship. Students must complete the online Scholarship Tracking and Review System for scholarship application.

Ursuline College

This Catholic college located only 13 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio, offers the Ursuline Award to students with a minimum 2.8 GPA. For the 2011 to 2012 academic year, this renewable scholarship provides $4,500 annually as long as the student maintains the 2.8 GPA. Ursuline also accepts the outside Ferro Corporation Minority Scholarship, whose applicants must contribute to their communities and demonstrate service and leadership skills.

Savannah State University

Georgia's Savannah State University offers several scholarships for students with a minimum 2.8 GPA. These include the Attorney Howard Alls Memorial Scholarship for full-time incoming students, the Robert L. & Charlease Thomas Stevenson Scholarship for African-American students participating in the Players by the Sea organization, and the AT&T Scholarship for those who demonstrate leadership skills and good character. Several other scholarships at this school are available to students with GPAs under 2.8, including the Willie R. Ingram Jr. Scholarship for mechanical engineering majors with a minimum 2.6 GPA.
