There are many senior assistance programs available.

If you are a senior citizen in need of assistance or are caring for a loved one who is, you will be pleased to know that there is help available. If you are looking for in-house care, free tax counseling and preparation, or even to sharpen your skills to re-enter the workforce, there are several programs available to assist you.

Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE)

The Internal Revenue Service offers the TCE program, which provides free tax counseling and basic income tax return preparation for people who are 60 and older. The counseling and preparation is done by trained volunteer tax preparers, typically retired persons associated with nonprofit organizations that receive IRS grants for the TCE program. The nationwide TCE program is offered at 7,000 locations throughout the filing season. AARP 601 E St., NW Washington, D.C. 20049 888-687-2277 aarp.org
